Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tanju Bilgiç, in Response to a Question Regarding the Alleged Statements by the Iranian Authorities about Attitudes of Qatar and Saudi Arabia concerning the Coup d’état Attempt

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 19.07.2016

QA-28, 19 July 2016

Turkey unfortunately was faced with a coup d’état attempt on 15 July 2016 in total disregard of the nation’s will and against the Government and H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who took office with the nation’s blessing as well as against the constitutional order.

The claims that Qatar and Saudi Arabia were not worried about this coup d’état attempt, suppressed through the sacrifices of our the Nation itself, security forces and the vast majority of the Turkish Armed Forces loyal to their country, nation and constitutional order, reflect the reality in no way.

On the contrary, friendly and brotherly Qatar and Saudi Arabia demonstrated a firm stance against the attempted coup. The Ameer of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,. Selman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud personally called H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and expressed their support and solidarity at the highest level.

Moreover, authorities of the aforementioned countries are engaged in substantial cooperation with our country within the frame of investigations initiated in the wake of the coup attempt.
